Churches in Kappl
Sightseeing in Kappl
The parish church is clearly visible from afar on the sunny northern slope of the valley above your holiday resort, Kappl. The church of St. Anthony has its origins in the 14th century. More than any other building in Kappl it embodies the culture and tradition of Tyrol.
The chapel that is the parish church today was first mentioned in documents in 1398. Many mountain farmers and craftsmen settled at Ba'r Kopla (near the chapel) - the chapel that later gave Kappl its name. Many hamlets lie in remote parts of the valley - it is only fitting that St. Anthony is the patron saint of the parish church.
Following the word of the Bible the ascetic gave all his belongings to the poor. He retreated to remote regions to pray to God without being disturbed. St. Anthony is considered the first Christian monk and the founder of a tradition still vibrantly alive today. No patron saint could be more fitting for mountain farmers - living in the 90 remote hamlets of the valley.
