Chapels in Kappl

Kappl has its inhabitants and their profound belief to thank for the large number of picturesque chapels. Today, you can visit these beautiful shrines on your holiday in Kappl.

The Kerkerkapelle is, without a doubt, one of the most famous chapels in Kappl. Local sculptor Johann Ladner created the three life-sized wooden figures in this chapel in 1760. Two savage soldiers mock Christ who is tied to the column of flagellation. The locals call the two soldiers “Kappler Juden” (“Kappl’s Jews”). These famous sculptures are also a landmark of Kappl.

The Rotwegkapelle and Ruhesteinkapelle are two other beautiful chapels in Kappl. The Rotwegkapelle stands in a small clearing at the heart of the forest right near the Visnitz waterfall.

The Ruhesteinkapelle is situated in an equally idyllic setting. This beautiful place makes a visit to the chapel a wonderful experience. A 110 cm-high crucifix by local artist Johann Ladner makes a moving centrepiece in the chapel’s interior. Follow in the footsteps of this unique artist while on holiday in Kappl!
