Are you a mountain sports fan looking for a physical challenge during your summer holidays in Tyrol? Then the prospect of hiking in the Austrian Alps is bound to excite you! Experience challenging but enjoyable hiking trails which lead to the most beautiful spots of the Paznaun Valley.

Edmund Graf Huette chalet – Hoher Riffler mountain – difficult tour – 6 hours

Ascend to the Schmalgrubenschafte mountain at 2,697 metres above sea level from the Diasalpe Alpine pasture - your trail leads over beautiful mountain pastures. Descend past Lake Schmalzgrubensee to the Edmund-Graf-Huette chalet. The ascent to the summit of the Hoher Riffler mountain - the highest peak of the Verwall mountain range at 3,168 metres above sea level - starts at the chalet.

Return path: hike from the Edmund-Graf-Huette chalet to the Kappler Joch ridge (2,672 m). The trail then leads past Lake Blankasee to the Durrichalpe Alpine pasture and continues to Oberhaus and Kappl. Schmalzgrubensee and Blankasee Lakes feature crystal-clear waters - a must for passionate photographers.

Getschnerscharte wind gap - Bielerhoehe mountain – difficult tour – 5 hours

Originating at the town square of Galtuer the trail leads to the Jamtalhuette chalet in Jamtal valley, before continuing along Jambach mountain river and taking you to the Getschnerscharte wind gap. The uppermost part of the trail is often covered in snow, even in summer.

Keep right on the steep terrain. A sign-posted trail takes you to a parting of the ways. Take the trail to your right into Bieltal valley and continue your hike to the Bielerhoehe mountain. Experience marvellous views of the Alpine valleys from 2,969 metres above sea level.

Lareintal valley - Ritzenjoch ridge - Heidelberger Huette chalet - Ischgl – difficult tour  – 5 hours

The trail leads from the Mathon wildlife park to the Larein Alpe Alpine pasture. Continue your hike into the valley along the road taking you to the old customs hut. Cross the Lareinbach mountain river and ascend to the Ritzenjoch mountain.

From here, winding serpentines take you into Fimbertal valley and to the Heidelberger Huette chalet. Pause for a rest and keep an eye out for marmots and chamoises.

Enjoy the fantastic views of the Fluchthorn mountains at the head of the valley.

Furglerjoch ridge – Furgler mountain  - difficult tour – 6.5 hours

Take the cable-car from See to the Medrigalm Alpine pasture, located 1,800 metres above sea level. From here the ascent to the Ascherhuette chalet follows a mountain road. Take the trail heading for Furgler mountain at the mountain restaurant Gratli. Keep to the sign-posts until you get to the Furglerjoch ridge. From there a final steep ascent over coarse gravel takes you to the summit of Furgler mountain at 3,004 metres above sea level. Enjoy the view in all directions - this is mountaineering in the Austrian Alps at its best!
