Hiking in the Tyrolean mountains: recommended trails
Bergwiesen – Jaegersteig – Lake Blankasee - intermediate tour – 6 hours
Take the Diasbahn cable-car to the mountain station. Below the Sunny Mountain restaurant is a trail which leads down into the valley. This will take you to an adventure park complete with playground, fish pond and much more to entertain children while hiking in the Austrian Alps. Follow the logging road to the branch-off signposted 'Bergwiesen Kappl'. Take trail 6a at the parting of ways after the Diasbach mountain river, heading towards Rifflakopf mountain / Edmund Graf Huettemountain chalet to the mountain ridge with its fantastic view of the valley below. Follow the Jaegersteig 6a trail to the trail Kieler Hoehenweg Nr. 511 leading to Lake Blankasee through Blankatal Valley. With a little luck you should spot some marmots or chamoises on the way.
Zeinisjoch ridge - Lake Wiegensee – intermediate tour – 1.5 hours
Starting at the town square in Galtuer, one of the most picturesque hiking trails in Tyrol takes you to the Gasthof Zeinisjoch inn, before ascending over a gentle incline to the Heilbronner Huette mountain chalet. Follow the mountain trail on your left at the Verbella Alpe until you reach your destination - a deep blue mountain lake complete with a beautiful picnic area.
Lake Madleinsee – intermediate tour – 3 hours
This trail originates at the Ischgl Mehrzweckhaus and takes you on the federal road to the pedestrian underpass behind the bowling alley. From there a serpentine trail takes you to Lake Madleinsee - a must while hiking in the Austrian Alps - via Mutta, Tiatsch and Kreuzbich. Enjoy the marvellous views of Kueckelspitze mountain with its summit 3,147 metres above sea level.
Gampertunalpe Alpine pasture – Lake Gruebelesee – intermediate tour – 7 hours
Starting at the Bergbahn cable-car in See, take the Talstrasse road towards Kappl until you reach Habigen. Then follow the sign-posted trail to the beautiful Gampertunalpe Alpine pasture, 2,070 metres above sea level. From there a broad trail leads to the crystal-clear Lake Gruebelese, one of the largest mountain lakes of the Paznaun Valley. The descent follows the Gruebelebaches mountain river to Labebene. After completing one of the lengthier hiking trails in Tyrol, you can then return to your holiday resort by bus or taxi.
