Kappl looks to implement extensive health and safety standards for the coming winter

The decision-makers in Tirolean Paznaun have drawn up a multilayered package of measures in order to ensure the health and safety of guests, staff and locals as well as possible.

“Health is our highest priority”, the Tourism Association managing board consisting of Alexander von der Thannen, Arnold Tschiderer and Michael Zangerl agrees. What the package of measures contains in concrete terms?

Extensive testing and medical certificates
The preparations for special health and hygiene guidelines have already been com-pleted in coordination with experts as well as the cable car companies in the valley and in Samnaun. With a bundle of measures centred on health and safety standards, the priority is purposely defined and a joint approach going far beyond official re-quirements will be implemented all throughout Paznaun.

Measures for staff
Thus in the coming winter season, all staff should make their way to their place of work with a recent negative Covid-19 test or be tested locally before the start of the season. During the winter season, staff will then be offered continuous testing oppor-tunities in order to optimally protect both guests as well as colleagues.

Measures for guests
Guests will be recommended to present a negative test result, not older than 72 hours, already when checking in in their hotels. “Those who cannot present a test result will have the option of using the voluntary testing facility in the local guest screening sta-tion", Tourism Association chairman Alexander von der Thannen explains. In addi-tion, temperature measurement should be carried out during check-in and a short questionnaire be completed and signed. A personalised contact tracing app is also currently under development, which helps determine the contact history of individual infected guests and thus also contributes to safety.

Measures at the cable cars
In concrete terms, all cable car cabins will be regularly disinfected with cold fogging machines in order to eliminate 99.99% of viruses, bacteria and spores in the cable car cabins. The same method is also used daily in the ski buses as well as in sports shops, ski depots, WC-facilities, elevator cars and the first-aid stations. All attendants are also checked for body temperature daily before beginning work – an important com-ponent in addition to mandatory initial testing and possible follow-up testing of those staff who come into contact with customers.

Measures for winter sportspeople
For winter sportspeople it is mandatory to wear a filtering facepiece when travelling on chair lifts and lifts – Kappl cable car has acquired multifunctional scarves to this end, which guests will receive as a free extra when buying a ski pass. The filtering facepiece is also mandatory at neuralgic and specially marked areas; all attendants who come into contact with customers will also wear such protection. Regardless of current legal provisions, the queueing areas will be arranged in such a way as to avoid groups of persons standing together at close range, as far as possible. In order to en-sure sufficient safety distance, admittances – depending on capacity utilisation – to the culinary establishments on the mountain, which are currently being adapted with re-gard to necessary hygiene protective measures, will be limited.

Après-ski severely restricted
Those in charge also show themselves in agreement with regard to planned measures for curbing the “party tourism”. “Legal requirements will drastically restrict this sector, too, après-ski for example will no longer exist as we are used to this winter.” Apart from official requirements for the coming season, qualitative measures will be relied on for the long term in this segment, too. The details for the restrictions now undergo-ing final coordination will also be specified in more detail this autumn, in good time for the start of the winter season.
