PAZNAUN IN TYROL: CEREMONIAL OPENING OF ”CULINARY WAY OF ST JAMES“ 2014

Last weekend saw the opening of the ”6th culinary Way of St James“ under the patronage of chef of the century Eckart Witzigmann. Four star chefs bring their dishes specially created from regional products for the Way of St James to the mountain lodges.

The 6th of July saw the ceremonial opening of the gourmet summer in the Paznaun Valley: under the patronage of Eckart Witzigmann, four international star chefs took over sponsorship of four Alpine Club lodges in the valley and created a dish for the respective summer menus. The chefs Dieter Müller from Germany, Giovani Oosters from Belgium, Russell Brown from the UK and Alfio Ghezzi from Italy were introduced on Friday at the gala evening at the Trofana Royal. On Saturday and Sunday, the star chefs showed that they are just as down to earth as the local Tyroleans when they hiked to the Heidelberger lodge near Ischgl along with the guests of the region. There they presented their dishes in the open air in brilliant sunshine and pampered their guests with samples. 

Up to 21 September 2014, holidaymakers can walk in and discover the Paznaun nature with four delightful hiking routes while enjoying the dishes served up by the star chefs of the Jamtalhütte in Galtür, Heidelberger Hütte in Ischgl, Niederelbehütte in Kappl and the Ascher Hütte in See. Also Eckart Witzigmann wasn’t going to miss this tasting session against the impressive backdrop of the mountain scenery. Along with the hikers, E-bikers, and mountain bikers, he got a taste of some new, surprising interpretations of regional specialties such as fried char fillet on salad and herb covering by Dieter Müller or tagliatelle with veal stew and   parmesan sauce, Ferrari Maximum Brut and coffee by Alfio Ghezzi. After the official part of the opening ceremony, all the star chefs went on to instruct the lodge managers in the preparation of the dishes developed.
