Workshops, ‘Testivals’, film screenings and two international contests - between 16th and 18th January 2015 Kappl is inviting you to the first Freeride Festival for youngsters and adults
Position to the rear or to front? Where do I position my body weight while deep snow skiing? How do I use an avalanche search device and how do I find the best line to take? At the first freeride festival from 16th to 18th January 2015 everything in Kappl revolves around being out in the open terrain. In free lectures youngsters and adults learn how to properly evaluate the snow conditions and what should be in a freerider’s rucksack. Then it’s practice – freeride workshops in the ski area ensure you find out about the correct technique for deep snow skiing. Your own equipment? Not necessary. All the equipment is made available for you to test out by the Freeride Festival. Film screenings and two fantastic events round off this three day festival. At the OPEN FACES** Freeride Contest on 17th January, leisure skiers and pros alike head to the start line, while on 18th January youngsters ages between 14 and 17 do battle to do the best ride off piste during the Open Faces Juniors event.
Creative descents are rewarded
Three festival days, two contests- for prospective freeriders this is the best opportunity to learn from the pros. The OPEN FACES Freeride Series is part of the most demanding off-piste competitions. The aim is to find the most original line and to factor in as many cliffs as possible. For the third time Kappl will be the venue on 17th January 2015 for the OPEN FACES** Freeride Contests and will celebrate a premiere on 18th January 2015 - under the aegis of OPEN FACES, for the first time this year the Europe-wide FREERIDE JUNIOR TOUR will be taking place, with the opening event in Kappl.
Kappl establishes itself in the freeride scene
Due to its extensive backcountry areas, Kappl qualified for two freeride competitions straight away. The best of the bunch will collect points in Paznaun for the Freeride World Tour, at which Austrian champions get to compete against the best in the world. Registration is taking place at the moment via the Freeride World Tour website at www.freerideworldtour.com/registration.html. Licence for individual participation costs 8 Euros, a season licence is available for 35 Euros. The licence entitles you to register for the event via http://open-faces.com/ and the starting fee for taking part in the event is 69 Euros. Everything on offer at the Freeride Festival, such as workshops and film screenings is provided free of charge for guests and those taking part in the OPEN FACES** Freeride Contest and the FREERIDE JUNIOR TOUR. Technique courses are provided by Kappl ski school at a special price of 30 Euros per day. A valid day ski pass, for 37 Euros, is all that is required to gain access to the ski area.
