Ice climbing in the Paznaun valley

From beginner-friendly to challenging

Ice climbing routes in the Paznaun valley

In the Paznaun valley, passionate climbers don’t have to stick to indoor places to practice their sport in winter. Instead, they can scale frozen waterfalls – an adventure that is certainly unforgettable but also comes with risks.

Nevertheless, this adventure is also open to beginners – thanks to the region’s experienced guides. They will teach you how to correctly use the special equipment and how to assess – and master – the largely vertical routes.

Ice climbing in Kappl and See

In the villages of Kappl and See, you can find eight ice climbing routes with difficulty levels ranging from WI3 to WI6. The frozen waterfalls Josè Gföll and Fernando Gföll are particularly suitable for beginners, while the Ladylike Holdernach icefall is for advanced climbers only.

Our tip: If you’re new to the sport, we recommend joining a special ice climbing course offered by select mountain guides in the Paznaun valley. Even experienced climbers benefit from the expertise and useful tips of our experienced guides:
