The mountain bike legend lives on: 30th Ischgl Ironbike thrills with a record number of participants and emotional triumphs

ISCHGL. Over 800 mountain bikers from 26 countries turned up for the 30th anniversary edition of the Ischgl Ironbike, making for an impressive turnout. In one of Europe's toughest mountain bike marathon races, Austrian Hermann Pernsteiner and Italian Claudia Peretti won the extreme distance on Saturday, repeating their successes from last year. Hermann Pernsteiner and Clara Sommer also secured the Austrian championship titles at the event.

Overall victory for Pernsteiner and Peretti at the 30th Ischgl Ironbike Marathon

The Ischgl Ironbike is considered one of the toughest mountain bike races in Europe and, in addition to the Extreme route (70 km / 3,400 m elevation gain), also covers the distances Light (25 km / 660 m elevation gain), Medium (44 km / 1,890 m elevation gain) and Hard (59 km / 2,720 m elevation gain) routes along historic smuggling trails through the impressive natural scenery of the Silvretta massif. The four Ironbike race routes were open to all riders, with professionals able to collect points for the ÖRV Austria Marathon Cup and the Mountain Bike Challenge.

Hermann Pernsteiner leads a domestic triple victory in the extreme distance. The Lower Austrian, who is once again fully focused on mountain biking, wins with a total time of 3 hours and 43 minutes. 2:30 minutes behind Pernsteiner, Upper Austrian Manuel Pliem takes second place. Very strong: "veteran" Daniel Federspiel. In his 22nd participation, the Tyrolean finishes third. This also corresponds to the result of the Austrian Championships. In the women's race, Claudia Peretti from Italy wins, as she did last year. The top international athlete rides a lonely race and wins after 4 hours and 36 minutes.

On the hard course covering just under 60 kilometres, German World Cup rider Luisa Daubermann (3 hours 47 minutes) wins ahead of young Upper Austrian Clara Sommer. Third place goes to Daniela Traxl-Pintarelli, a multiple podium finisher at the Ischgl Ironbike. Clara Sommer thus wins the Austrian championship title ahead of her mother Sabine. As neither Traxl-Pintarelli nor fourth-placed Bianca Somavilla have an elite licence, young Eva Herzog came third in the Austrian Championship standings. In the men's race, Noah Laschewski from Germany won the hard course in 3 hours and 13 minutes ahead of Kilian Feurstein and Julius Scherrer, both from Vorarlberg.

Federspiel and Daubermann win at Short Track

The start on Friday with the short track race was just as exciting as the marathon on Saturday. Daniel Federspiel from Tyrol won the men's race and Luisa Daubermann from Germany won the women's race. In addition to the elite riders, the youngest riders were also able to show off their skills in the Ironbike Kids & Juniors Trophy presented by Volksbank Tirol.
