Leaving the daily grind behind or really burning off some energy: running has many facets! To allow you to pursue your passion for running when on holiday, you'll find optimal conditions in Paznaun for a sports-filled time in the mountains.

Speaking of mountains: Paznaun not only stands for challenging alpine running routes, but is also offers (almost) flat terrain for joggers. And trailrunners will get their money's worth in Paznaun anyway.

Good to know: The altitude and geographic conditions of Paznaun require appropriate acclimatisation, but have a highly positive effect on performance and well-being. Thus, Paznaun has a wide range of routes to challenge both hobby runners, marathon runners and trailrunning fans.

The best trail running routes in Paznaun

The Tal-Lauf, with entry points in all villages, is perect for a little evening run, but also for a long tempo run. From beginner to pro, there is something for everyone here.

From See, the route leads through Kirchwald forest to the upper terminus of the Medrigjochbahn cable car. There you’ll reach the tree line and the Paznaun High Trail. Along gorgeous trails you follow the Paznaun High Trail, until you get into Flathtal Valley and run back to See along trails with short sections on the forest road.

The first half to Flathtal Valley runs along the See Trail. But instead of following the trail to See, you now continue along the Paznaun High Trail, past Gamper-thun Alpe mountain cabin, all the way to Grübeletal Valley. Those who still have some energy in store should not miss out on making a detour to Grübelesee Lake, before tackling the optional downhill to Kappl. 

Short but snappy! The perfect route for testing your form, and then back to Kappl by cable car the energy-saving way.

The “small” version of the Silvrettarun 3000, with a distance of 11 kilometres and 300 metres elevation gain is also suitable for hobby runners. Always following Trisanna River, the trail leads from Ischgl via Mathon and Tschaffein all the way to Galtür.

The “light” route of the Silvrettarun 3000 initially leads from Ischgl to Mathon, before tackling the climb up to Bergli Lake. From there, a challenging trail leads down to Lareintal Valley and then to Galtür.

The “medium” route of the Silvrettarun 3000 with the climb up to Ritzenjoch and almost 30 kilometres and 1,500 metres elevation gain, is a circuit to be tackled by the fit and combines Fimbatal and Lareintal valleys.

Those looking for a challenge of a special kind decide on the “hard” version – tackling Kronenjoch along 42.1 kilometres and more than 1,932 metres elevation gain.
The Silvrettarun 3000 takes its name from the climb up to Kronenjoch. After the steep climb up to 2,980 metres, the trail continues through Jamtal Valley out to Galtür.

Broken trails and forest roads make for great variety when running around the lake. Just like at the Silvretta reservoir, you can enjoy perfect high-altitude training on the route around Kops Reservoir!
