There’s plenty to see and do all around the beautiful mountain lake: a petting zoo, a playground, a hiking trail, a low rope course, Kneipp facilities … A day at the adventure mountain simply flies by, you’ll see!
In addition to the lake at Sunny Mountain, Kappl boasts some picturesque mountain lakes that are “warmly” recommended not only on hot summer days.

Welcome to the marmots’ realm! With a bit of luck, you can spot the cute animals all around the vicinity of the picturesque mountain lake. On top, you get marvellous views of the mighty summits of the Tyrolean mountain world, including breathtaking perspectives of the Hoher Riffler and the Blankahorn as well as of the valley below.
How to get to Lake Blankasee:
Take Diasbahn cable car up to the mountain station.
At Alpengasthof Dias, continue towards the turn-off to “Bergwiesen Kappl”.
At the junction at Diasbach, take Trail No. 6a towards Rifflakopf – Edmund Graf hut and the mountain saddle.
From there, continue along Jägersteig No. 6a and Kieler Höhenweg No. 511 towards Blankatal and Lake Blankasee.

Green meets blue and pink – during a hike to Lake Grübelesee, the crystal-clear mountain water, the lush meadows and the blooming Alpine flowers compete against each other in a firework of colours. Surrounded by the most beautiful peaks of the Samnaun Alps, Lake Grübelesee is a mystical and enchanting sight and well worth the 1,200 vertical metres you have to climb to get there.
How to get to Lake Grübelesee:
From Kappl village square, head to Kohlplatz and take Trail No. 17 up to Visnitz waterfall.
At Rotwegkappelle chapel, follow the forest road to the “Panoramaweg” information board.
Follow the marked forest trail to the “Grübelesee” turn-off.
Continue along the flat trail and the Grübelebach stream to Lake Grübelesee.

Perched high above the valley at 2,310 metres above sea level, you can find Niederelbe mountain hut. Up there, it almost seems like a different world. Far away from the hustle and bustle and surrounded by the most prestigious summits of the Verwall mountain range, you can experience nature in the purest way. Enjoy glorious panoramic views, murmuring mountain streams and picturesque little Lake Seß-See.
Our tip: A hike up to Niederelbe hut is also a highlight for foodies. After all, the mountain hut regularly features on the “Culinary Way of St. James”, turning it into a temporary hotspot of international haute cuisine.
How to get to the lake at Niederelbe hut:
At Diasbahn mountain station, follow the footpath towards Sunny Mountain Adventure Park.
Continue along the forest trail to Seßladalpe No. 5.
Continue along Seßladtal valley until you reach the lake at Niederelbe hut.
